Parents and students were shocked to receive notice Friday morning that Columbia Academy would be closed for the day due to a break in Thursday night. Suspicions were raised as to why the school would need to close a full day for a break in.

Legacy breakfast honors Rev. R.T. McGowan

The Marion County NAACP held its first annual Rev. R.T. McGowan Legacy Prayer Breakfast Saturday at John the Baptist Missionary Baptist Church.
The breakfast was started in memory of the former chapter president who passed away last year.

Alberson receives March Yard of the Month honors

Marie Haney of the Yard of the Month committee stands with Samantha Alberson. The March Yard of the Month was earned by Alberson and is located at 111 Bellewood Blvd. in Columbia. The house was completely revamped after being hit by the devastating 2014 tornado. Alberson gives all the credit to Kevin Brady for keeping the yard up for her.

Marion County's finest awarded at MCDP Gala

The 117th Annual MCDP Awards Gala was held Feb. 23 at Magnolia Grille. The theme of the event was "We'll Be There For You," and the room was decked out in the references and décor from the sitcom "Friends," including a couch like the one from the coffee shop in the show.
