The first and second-grade winners from Columbia Primary School, East Marion Elementary School and West Marion Primary School participated in a countywide spelling bee at West Marion Primary on Feb. 15. The contestants and judges followed the Scripps guidelines. The field of 18 fell quickly going through words such as everlasting, awesome, spellbound, nimble and easily. One student spelled "sheesh" correctly to the amazement of the adults present. The numbers speak for themselves in CPD report

The Columbia Police Department released its 2022 strategic plan Tuesday along with its vision for 2023.
The theme of the report is "we are." It presents the CPD as caring, transparent, trustworthy and compassionate and invested in the youth of the city, engaged in the community and fighting crime.

Weird like a spoonbill or plain like a sparrow

The bodies of water in the area by the SportsPlex are often visited by water birds such as egrets and a variety of ducks, but on Oct. 17, 2022 a rare roseate spoonbill was spotted there.
