Reeves wins governor race against Waller

Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves secured the Republican nomination for governor Tuesday night, setting up a Nov. 5 general election battle with Democratic Attorney General Jim Hood.

The Associated Press called the race for Reeves, 45, over former Mississippi Supreme Court Chief Justice Bill Waller Jr., 67, at about 8:40 p.m.

Pet owners must take responsibility

No sane person wants to see dogs suffer or have to be put down. Even people who are not canine lovers understand that dogs have a special relationship with mankind where they often seem to have a special intuition about people’s emotions. The moniker of “man’s best friend” is certainly deserved.

Judge makes initial ruling in police lawsuit

A federal judge has filed an initial order regarding an excessive force lawsuit against Columbia police, dismissing some of the claims but declining to throw out the case.

U.S. District Court Judge Keith Starrett issued the opinion last month in “Shamber Hollins vs. City of Columbia.”
