Music therapy camp offers unique services

Adults with intellectual disabilities interacted with music therapy students from William Carey University Saturday in Columbia as part of a day-long retreat.

Camp Rocky Creek, held at Pine Belt Graphics on Broad Street, uses live music to help with things like motor skills, movement and expressing emotions.

Mississippi has not had a Republican attorney general since the long-forgotten George E. Harris in 1877. Look for that to change in 2020.

With Attorney General Jim Hood, the lone statewide elected Democrat in Mississippi, running for governor, it leaves attorney general to be the final office to fall to GOP control.

County jobless rate drops to 5.1%

Marion County’s unemployment rate dipped slightly in February and remains near historically low levels.

The February rate was 5.1 percent compared to 5.4 percent in January. It had been 4.8 percent in December and 4.4 percent in November.

There were 30 additional jobs in Marion County in February versus January.

Main Street sewer repairs scheduled to begin April 8

Work is scheduled to start April 8 and finish by June 7 to fix a sewer line problem underneath Main Street near the courthouse that could be one culprit for downtown drainage problems.

The Columbia Board of Aldermen accepted the low base bid March 19 from Mitchell Contracting of Covington, La., for $138,270.
