How sportsplex has benefitted Magee

So far in 2019, the Jimmy Clyde Sportsplex in Magee has hosted youth baseball and softball tournaments with 61 teams, 49 teams, 27 teams, 10 teams and 13 teams. More are scheduled for three of the next four weekends.

District honors state champs

The Marion County school board honored the state champion East Marion basketball team at Monday’s meeting.

Superintendent Wendy Bracey gave plaques to each player, who wore dress shirts and bow ties, and Hilton Holmes of Custom Trophy made a special presentation to head coach Calvin Brown.

Pre-K will serve 85% of county’s 4-year-olds

Starting next school year, 85 percent of 4-year-olds in Marion County will be enrolled in a public preschool program.

That’s the result of a grant-funded learning collaborative headed up by the Marion County School District that also involves the Columbia School District, Pearl River Valley Opportunity Inc. and two daycares.
