Columbia’s grit leads to South State title

Although Poplarville executed its game plan to perfection, limiting the Columbia offense to just 28 plays while controlling the ball for about two-thirds of the game, the Wildcats outlasted the Hornets 20-14 Friday night with a 98-yard, game-winning drive sending them to the Class 4A State Championship to face Kosciusko.

The 14-0 Columbia Wildcats celebrate beating Poplarville 20-14 in the South State Championship Friday night. They trailed for most of the game but rallied in the fourth quarter to advance to the Class 4A State Championship, where they will face 13-1 Kosciusko at Mississippi State.

Wildcats reach state for third time in 5 years

Despite trailing for most of the game, the Columbia Wildcats prevailed Friday night to beat Poplarville 20-14 and claim the South State Championship. Now the Wildcats will head to Starkville to take on Kosciusko for the Class 4A state title at Mississippi State Friday afternoon.
