TOKYO (AP) — Issey Miyake, who built one of Japan’s biggest fashion brands and was known for his boldly sculpted pleated pieces as well as former Apple CEO Steve Jobs’ black turtlenecks, has died. He was 84.

Miyake died last Friday of liver cancer, Miyake Design Office said Tuesday.

Asian shares rise on optimism on economic data, earnings

TOKYO (AP) — Asian shares mostly rose Thursday as investors welcomed encouraging economic data and quarterly earnings reports from big companies.

Benchmarks rose across the region, including Japan, China, Australia and South Korea. The gains followed a strong rally on Wall Street.
