The City of Columbia has come to an agreement with CSpire to bring high-speed fiber optic internet within city limits, and the project could get done faster with the help of Columbia’s citizens.
Alderwoman-at-Large Andrea Porter said for the project to get underway and completed quicker, citizens need to fill out an interest form online so that CSpire works on it in Columbia before other cities. Interest forms can be filled out at cspire.com/fiber online.
The internet service is expected to be extremely fast with Porter saying it will be comparable to what PearlComm has brought to citizens in the county. She added that in today’s climate, it’s really not an option to have slow internet speeds.
“We really don’t have many fiber options for residents. We have fiber options for businesses but not fiber to the home,” she said. “In today’s day and age with everybody streaming, working from home, gaming and doing a little bit of everything, you really need to be competitive and have that to offer to people.”
Porter said that with all the advancements made in recent years throughout Columbia, getting this deal done moved to the top of her list, and she’s excited to help Columbia’s citizens.
City representatives also want residents to be aware that utility work will happen in the near future with this project, and they will do everything they can to not disrupt everyday activities.
