A 3-year-old in the Expose community is in critical condition at University of Mississippi Medical Center after being shot accidentally in the head by her 6-year-old brother.
The shooting happened at approximately 8 p.m. Thursday at 98 Ratliff Loop. Investigators learned the children were being watched by their grandmother while their mother was at work.
The brother was looking for candy in the grandmother’s bedroom when he came across the loaded gun. While playing with the gun, he unintentionally shot his sister, according to a press release issued by Sheriff Berkley Hall.
“Tragic examples like this remind us of the importance to secure firearms in the home and out of reach from children,” Hall said in the statement.
