The West Marion boys powerlifting team claimed the Region 4-3A championship Friday at St. Patrick, sending 10 lifters to the South State meet later this month.
Ten of the team’s 12 competitors placed in the top three of their respective weight classes to qualify for South State, scheduled for Feb. 28 in Quitman.
Regional champions for West Marion included Blake Holmes (123 pounds), Ben DeClement (148), Conner Baughman (165), Tristian Blake (308) and Ed Henry (308-plus). Joshua Martin finished second at 123, Payton Morgan was second at 148, Dylan Hall placed second at 181, Nathan White took second at 275 and Tom Foster finished third at 220.
The West Marion girls powerlifting team is scheduled to compete Feb. 7 at St. Patrick.
