Kandace Upton of Poplarville is one of four students to win the 2025 Mississippi Poultry Foundation Scholarships. Kandace is the daughter of Kenneth and Angel Upton.
Kandace is a graduate of Columbia Academy. She is currently attending Pearl River Community College, and she plans to transfer to the University of Southern Mississippi and purse a degree in Elementary Education. After graduation, she hopes to work at Salem Attendance Center in Tylertown.
The Mississippi Poultry Foundation, created in 2005, has awarded $190,000 in 70 scholarships to 64 different students. Those who are majoring in poultry science or are the children or grandchildren of MPA grower members or is a MS resident, receive extra weight on the selection.
A scholarship committee of educators at the university, community college, and high school levels, and an extension specialist review the applications and choose four students each year to receive the $4000 scholarships.
