In a hands-on learning project that combines skill-building with community spirit, the second-year carpentry students have recently designed and built several benches for their school campus. This exciting initiative not only enhances the school environment but also gives students valuable real-world experience in woodworking and project planning.
Under the guidance of their instructor Bryan Porter, the students applied techniques learned in class—measuring, cutting, sanding, and finishing—to create sturdy, attractive benches. Each bench reflects the craftsmanship of the students, showcasing precision and creativity.
The project helped students practice essential skills such as reading blueprints, calculating dimensions, and working safely with tools. The benches are now strategically placed in outdoor areas, providing comfortable seating for students during events and between classes.
This initiative demonstrates the power of vocational education to engage students actively, foster teamwork, and contribute positively to the school community. The carpentry students’ work will serve as a legacy and inspiration for future classes
