Marion General Hospital became a hands-on classroom Jan. 29, when a medical rescue helicopter, Rescue 9, touched down, giving students an up-close look at emergency medicine in action. Students from Marion County Career and Technology Center programs Health Science II, Sports Medicine, Digital Media and Engineering gathered to learn about the critical careers that make air medical transport possible. The rescue crew included Drew Steele, FP-C, MS-CCP (flight paramedic), Adrienne McKenzie, RN, CFRN, CEN (flight nurse) and Brad Wilson (pilot). The crew gave students a career overview and allowed time for question-and-answer sessions that highlighted teamwork, training and the realities of high-pressure medical response. The event left students inspired and informed, proving that learning doesn’t always happen behind a desk. Sometimes, it arrives by helicopter.
