Alexis McMiller and Douglass Peters, both natives of Columbia, announce their engagement. Ms. Alexis McMiller is the daughter of Carl and Mary McMiller of Columbia. Alexis is also the granddaughter of the late Mrs. Beatrice Gathwright Payton and Mrs. Hollis and Willie Mae Payton of Cheraw. The late Mrs. Bertha L. McMiller, The late Mrs. Herbert and Wilhelmina Smith. She is a graduate of East Marion High School and a graduate of the University Southern Mississippi, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, She also earned a master’s degree in elementary education from Mississippi Valley State University and a specialist degree in supervision and leadership from Union University of Jackson, Tenn. Alexis is currently employed with the Houston Independent School District of Houston, Texas as an assisstant principal. Alexis is also a member of Xi Mu Omega/ Iota Kappa Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.
Douglas Peters is the son of the late Mrs. Willie B. Peters and Georgia Peters of Columbia. Douglas is also the grandson of the late Mrs. Will and Brilla Baggett of Prentiss; the late Mrs. Genova and Emma Peters of Columbia. Douglass is a graduate of East Marion High School and attended Alcorn State University. Douglass later enlisted in the United States military for 24 years and retired as a master sergeant. Douglass is currently employed with CLS Technology of Houston, Texas as a technician.
The wedding will be at 4 p.m. July 22, 2017, at The Lake Terrace Convention Center in Hattiesburg. The wedding is invitation only.
