On January 22, fifth grade students at West Marion Elementary School celebrated their 1000th day of school, which coincided with their 100th day of the year. To mark this important milestone, the students engaged in various activities and projects. They calculated 1000 days into hours and minutes and predicted when the next 1000th day of school would be. They also wrote essays about where they would be on the next 1000th day, what classes and extracurricular activities they would be participating in.
The school's theme for the year is "Be Bold, Be You, Be Great," and the fifth graders wrote suggestions entitled "1000 Ways to Be Great," and created a collage to hang in the hall for everyone to see throughout the day. In addition, the students participated in a community service project by collecting 1000 dimes to donate to the Celebrate Sela Foundation, a local charity that raises awareness for Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH)
The fifth grade students, teachers, and principal presented their donations to Laura Anderson, a West Marion High School teacher who hosts the annual Celebrate Sela event. Celebrate Sela helps raise awareness for CDH, and the annual 5K race will take place on Saturday, April 6. WME fifth grade had a great time celebrating this milestone and were excited to support a cause close to home. Be Bold, Be You, Be Great!
