Foxworth MS—When we pour our hearts and souls into something so meaningful and work together with all our might, what a difference we can make!
This past September — Childhood Cancer Awareness Month — West Marion Primary PTO and West Marion Elementary PTO teamed up with School Nurse Bianca Williams with a mission for making a difference. Both schools decided the Make-A-Wish Mississippi Foundation was the place to start.
Make-A-Wish Mississippi is a program geared towards creating life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. Not only do we have 100-plus children in Mississippi alone waiting for their wish to be granted, but informant Jane Walsh with Make-A-Wish Mississippi expressed that four of those children are right here in Marion County. The average cost of a single wish is approximately $6,500.
West Marion Primary School and West Marion Elementary School children hit the ground running with fundraisers in hopes to raise enough money to grant at least one wish. West Marion Primary PTO took part in selling the Make-A-Wish stars daily and free dress passes on Fridays. After Foxworth First Baptist Church and Grace Chapel at Sandy Hook’s donation of popsicles, West Marion Primary PTO was also able to sell popsicles to the children at recess. West Marion Elementary PTO also sold the Make-A-Wish stars and silicone bracelets that displayed the Make-A-Wish Mississippi logo on them.
Both schools received a very generous monetary donation towards their cause from Grace Chapel at Sandy Hook.
With great excitement, West Marion Primary School raised $4,745 and West Marion Elementary School raised $1,755! Together the schools raised $6,500, the average cost of a wish!
At West Marion Primary, the class that raised the most money was rewarded with a pizza party. Students at West Marion Elementary School celebrated their success with free dress passes, ice cream for the grade that raised the most money, a pizza party for the class that raised the most money and a Pie the Principal game for the student who raised the most money. It was an all around fun and rewarding experience for both schools.
On Wednesday Nov. 8, 2023, West Marion Primary PTO and West Marion Elementary PTO were able to present a check to cover the full average cost of a single wish to Make-A-Wish Mississippi Volunteer Leticia Bezerra.
Putting forth time and energy into something so meaningful will result in a blessing that will be granted to a child. West Marion Primary School and West Marion Elementary School encourage you to take part in this wonderful program to help continue the blessings and wish granting. You can do so by visiting ms.wish.org/donate.
