Broad Street will be closed for several hours today as crews make repairs to power lines, clear downed trees and attempt to restore power, according to Columbia Mayor Justin McKenzie.
Two trees and a power line were snapped near Broad Street Restaurant with both trees taking down power lines. Further down Broad Street between Clearview Drive and Briarwood Drive, an uprooted tree downed power lines that are crossing the road. There is also an uprooted tree that landed on a house on Briarwood Drive, but the homeowners believe there is no significant damage.
The damage is believed to be from straight-line winds. While a tornado was spotted on the outskirts of Marion County, reports are that it never touched down.
The Columbian-Progress will continue to provide updates throughout the day.
