Things went from bad to worse for a 28-year-old Columbia man Sunday night as the Marion County Sheriff’s Office attempted to serve a warrant. Hunter Raybourn earned seven additional charges to the one he was already facing for attempting to burn and flush marijuana as deputies knocked on his door.

When deputies arrived on scene to serve the warrant, it took Raybourn five minutes to come to the door even though deputies could tell someone was inside moving around. When he finally did open the door and was taken into custody, deputies smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from Raybourn.
Deputies then noticed smoke coming from inside the residence and went inside to investigate and potentially extinguish a fire. They found a pile of marijuana burning in the living room, which Raybourn allegedly set to destroy. When deputies went to the bathroom for water to quell the small blaze, they discovered even more marijuana that Raybourn allegedly attempted to flush down the toilet unsuccessfully.
The sheriff’s office then acquired a search warrant to comb through the residence thoroughly and found marijuana, methamphetamine and liquid methamphetamine.
Raybourn has been charged with two felony counts of possession of a Schedule I-II controlled substance, two counts of contempt of court, tampering with physical evidence, possession of controlled substance paraphernalia with intent to use and possession of marijuana on top of his grand jury indictment for possession of a controlled substance.
Raybourn’s total bond is in excess of $85,000, and he remained at the Marion County Regional Correctional Facility as of press time Tuesday.
Elsewhere in the county, deputies were dispatched to Sumbax Road just before 10 p.m. Monday for an attempted burglary. Deputies located a bandana behind the house and were informed the bandana belonged to Kevin Hansen, 28, of Foxworth. They then learned there was a warrant for his arrest when they ran his name through the system.
Deputies went to Hansen’s address and arrested him, and they found suspected Vyvanse on him when he was searched.
Hansen has been charged with felony possession of a Schedule I-II drug, felony taking away of a motor vehicle and contempt for possession in a motor vehicle. Hansen’s total bond was set at $8,000, and he remained behind bars as of press time Tuesday.
Jamal Smith, 22, of Sandy Hook was recently sentenced to 15 years with five years to serve on the sale of a controlled substance charge. He was arrested and indicted for selling methamphetamine, according to Capt. Pete Williams.
