Students in the first year Construction Technology Program at the Marion County Career and Technology Center have learned some important new skills this school year. Throughout the year, the students mastered a variety of useful skills. First, they experienced an extensive basic construction site safety training. Throughout the year, they were taught hand tools, power tools, construction drawings reading, material handling and construction math. Students tested their skills by completing multiple projects. These first-year students are shown building robin-nesting shelters. They read the blueprints, measured all material, cut all material to size and assembled the project using a pneumatic nail gun. When the students return for the second year of the program, they will learn the entire process of building a house. Students will learn how to construct a foundation, as well as how to build an envelope system.
