The latest round of campaign finance reports covering money received and spent during June were due to the Marion County Circuit Clerk’s Office by July 10.
The primary election is drawing near on Aug. 6 followed by potential runoffs on Aug. 27 and a general election on Nov. 5. Prior to the winning candidate taking office, all of his/her campaign reports must be filed with the circuit clerk’s office.
These are the reports filed as of Wednesday morning, July 17:
Chancery Clerk-Republican Candidates
Joy Dale Baughman received $2,475 and $2,117 was disbursed for the month of June for a total of $8,390 received and $6,800 disbursed. Elisha Prisk Moree’s report shows $500 received in June, disbursement of $420, for a total of the year of $3,000 received and $8,637 disbursed. Randy Dyess did not received or spend any money this month for a total of $100 received and $4,908 spent. Mark Broom reported no money was received or spent in June for a total disbursed of $1,040.
Chancery Clerk-Democratic Candidate
Darrick McGowan received no funds but disbursed $490, for a total of $1,000 received and $490 disbursed.
Sheriff-Republican Candidates
Incumbent Berkley Hall received $1,000 and disbursed $1,884 for a total of $4,050 received and $3,377 spent for the year. Mike Cooper received no contributions in June but disbursed $4,505 for a total $4,505 in disbursements. Lance A. Poirier received $1,000 in contributions and disbursed $2,410 for a total of $1,400 received and $8,998 spent.
Sheriff-Democratic Candidate
Adrian Fortenberry reported $849 disbursed in June for a total of $849 disbursed for the year.
Coroner
Jessie Graham received no contributions for the month but disbursed $415 for a total of $3,035 disbursed. Alicia Neal Herrington received no contributions or expenditures for the month for a total of $825 received and $1,919.32 disbursed. Ashley Davis Nibert had no contributions or expenditures during this period for a total of $682 received and $1,739 spent. Bill Pierce filed a report for both May and June. For the month of May there were no contributions or funds spent. In June according to the report, $120 was disbursed for a yearly total of that same amount. Carla S. Thornhill reported $303 received and $709 disbursed for June for a total $527 received and $2,774 disbursed.
District 1 Supervisor-Republicans
“Blue” Green reported $407 spent for a total of $2,014 disbursed for the year. George E. King had no contributions but spent $1,117 for a total $2,552 disbursed. Eddie Morgan reported no contribution but disbursed $1,460 for a total of $3,562 disbursed. Steven “Pork Chop” Stringer’s report showed no expenditures or contributions for June but a total disbursed $1,012. Morris Sweatt spent $340 this period for a total disbursed $2,546. David Lowery did not file a report for June.
District 1 Supervisor-Democrat
Pearlie M. Hendricks had $225 disbursed for June for a total of $190 received and $225 disbursed.
District 1 Supervisor-Independent
Ted Breakfield had $746 disbursed for a total of $746 for the year and no contributions.
District 2 Supervisor Republicans
Incumbent Terry Broome reported receiving $1,000 and spending $1,721 for a total $1,650 received and $4,864 disbursed. Sylvester Douglas received $600 and $1,100 was disbursed for a total of $1,335 received and $3,489 disbursed. John N. Moree’s report shows no monies received or disbursed this period for a total disbursement of $370. Jimmy Townsend reported $600 received, $1,207 disbursed for a total $3,000 received and $2,991 disbursed.
District 4 Supervisors Republicans
Incumbent Raymon “Tater” Rowell reported no contributions or expenditures for the entire year. Rowell has elected to no longer accept contributions and acknowledged there will be no further expenditures, which means he won’t be required to submit any further campaign finance reports. Buddy Carroll Bracey spent $374 for a yearly total of $1,733 disbursed.
Justice Court Judge District 1 Republicans
Winston “Joe” Cox’s report stated no funds received, $1,011 spent for a total of $2,739 received and $3,751 spent for the year. David Reed did not receive any contributions but spent $841 for a total of $841 disbursed. Brandon Paul Rowell personally reported no monies received or spent for the campaign however the Committee to Elect Brandon Paul Rowell reported $2,356 received for a total receipts of $5,331. Henry Sumrall did not spend or receive any funds in June for a total spending of $1,072. The Committee to Elect Carlton Thornhill had no contributions or expenditures for the month for a total of $1,227 received and $1,077 disbursed. Carlton Thornhill personally reported no contributions or expenditures for the campaign. The Committee to Elect Joseph L. Turney’s report stated no contributions but $304 was disbursed for a total disbursement of $304. Joseph L. Turney personally reported $2,459 disbursed for the period for a total of $8,550 in expenditures.
Justice Court Judge District 1 Democrat
A.D. Lenior did not file a report for June.
Constable District 1 Republican
Gary Holman reported no contributions but expended $39 for a total of $1,154 spent. Krae Morgan filed his report with the Circuit Clerk's office, but his report was misplaced. Eli Turnage and Gerald Rowley have not filed their reports as of press time on Thursday.
Constable District 1 Democrat
Brian Foxworth had no contributions or expenditures for the month and reported a total of $818 in expenditures the entire campaign.
The next deadline for candidates is at 5 p.m. July 30. There is then a 48-hour report covering last-minute contributions made from July 28 through Aug. 4 that is due before the election.
Correction: Krae Morgan, candidate for Marion County District 1 constable, filed his latest campaign finance report on July 8, two days before the deadline. The form was misplaced in the circuit clerk’s office and not there when the C-P checked the records, leading to incorrect information being published Saturday.
