Campaign finance reports detailing spending and fundraising during May showed no major action in Marion County. The reports were due to the circuit clerk’s office Monday.
The Republic and Democratic primaries are coming up Aug. 6 for both county and state positions. The biggest race in Marion County is for chancery clerk, where incumbent Cass Barnes is not seeking re-election.
Here is a look at the four Republicans’ finance reports so far in that race:
Joy Daley Baughman: Received $1,800 in May and disbursed $200. To date Baughman has received a total of $5,915 and disbursed a total of $4,683.
Mark Broom: Did not receive or spend any money during May. Overall Broom has not received any funds but has spent a total of $1,040.99.
Randy Dyess: No funds received during the month but disbursed a total of $869.50, for a total received of $100 and $4,908.83 spent.
Elisha Prisk Moree: Did not receive any money but disbursed $1,305.40 for the month. Her total money to date is $2,800 received and $8,217.15 disbursed.
The lone Democrat in the race, Darrick McGowan, had not filed his campaign report as of press time.
Here’s a look at other contested races:
Sheriff
Mike Cooper’s report stated no monies were received and total disbursed for May is $650 with a total for the year spent $4,405.74. Lance Poirier reported receiving $400 this month and disbursing $428. Poirier’s yearly total is $400 received and $6,588.53 disbursed. Incumbent Berkley Hall and candidate Adrian Fortenberry had not filed reports for May as of press deadlines.
Coroner
With longtime incumbent Norman Williamson not running again, five Republicans are vying for the position. Jessie D. Graham reported spending $200 for May for a total of $2,620.55 for spending and no funds received for the year. Alicia Neal Herrington reports state her expenditures for May to be $142 for a total of $1,919.32; no funds were received this month but total contributions for the year are $825. No funds were spent or received this month for Ashley Davis Nibert, but for the year she has received $682 and spent $1,739.90. Carla Thornhill’s reports said she has received and disbursed no funds the entire year. Bill Pierce did not file a report.
District 1 Supervisor
In the open race because Dyess is running for chancery clerk, Eugene “Blue” Green reported spending $968.14 for the month for a total of $1,607.94 of funds disbursed and reported no funds received. George “P-Nut” King disbursed $398.94 and received no funds during the month. King has spent $1,435.27 for the entire year. Edward “Eddie” Morgan according to his report spent a total $1,982 for a total of $2,102 for the year and reported no funds received. Steven “Pork Chop” Stringer reported no funds received or disbursed for the entire year. Morris Sweat paid out $363.62 during this filing period for a total of $2,206.65 for the year with no funds received. Democratic candidate Pearlie M. Hendricks reported no monies received or disbursed the entire year. Independent candidate Ted “Teddy” Breakfield reported $400 spent during the entire year, no monies received and no spending during the current filing period. David Lowery had not filed a campaign report for May.
District 2 Supervisor
Incumbent Terry Broome’s report stated $965.58 was spent during the filing period for a total of $3,142.73 disbursed and $650 received. No spending or funds received for the month was reported by Sylvester Douglas. Douglas’ total year to date is $735.71 received and $2,389.66 disbursed. John Moree did not receive or spend any money during this filing period but has spent $370 to date. Jimmy Townsend did not file a report.
District 4 Supervisor
The incumbent Raymon “Tater” Rowell’s report states he has not received or spent any money this year. His opponent in the Republican primary, Buddy Carroll Bracey, reported no money spent or received for this filing period and a total $1,358 has been spent to date.
Justice Court District 1
With incumbent Sharon Whitfield not running, six Republicans and one Democrat are seeking the spot on the bench. Winston “Joe” Cox and Henry Sumrall reported no funds received or disbursed for the year. David Reed’s reports says $841.56 was disbursed this month and for the year and no funds received. Carlton Thornhill personal report said no funds were received or spent for the year, but the Committee to Elect Carlton Thornhill’s report stated a total of $1,227 was received and $1,077 was spent for the entire year with no activity in May. The report from Joseph Turney said expenditures in May was $1,450.95 and no funds received. Turney’s total of the year is $6,091.34 disbursed and no funds received. Brandon Rowell and A.D. Lenoir, the lone Democrat, did not file reports for the month.
Constable District 1
Brian Foxworth, the incumbent Democrat, reported no funds received or spent the entire year. Among the Republicans, Gary Holman’s report states no money was received or spent this filing period and a total of $1,115.11 this year. Candidates Krae Morgan, Gerald Rowley and Eli Turnage did not file reports.
The next campaign reporting deadline is July 10 covering June. Although penalties for not turning in the reports are rarely, if ever, enforced, candidates who win election cannot take office until they’ve turned in all their required reports.
