When Kevin Frazier got a call saying he’d won a car, he didn’t believe it. So much so that he contacted his attorney.
But it was indeed legitimate. Frazier and his wife, Sharmaine, a Realtor and property manager for Tanya Holland Real Estate, were jetted off to Florida to not only watch the Daytona 500, but bring home a new custom Chevrolet Camaro courtesy of Zomongo, a digital couponing service.
“During the holidays I was just looking at different contests online,” Kevin Frazier said. “I was entering stuff like anything from a $100 gift card to gift baskets and it was like, oh, a car, I’m going to enter that, too. It just went from there.”
Frazier said he couldn’t believe it when he got the call.
“I saw someone had called my phone when I was at work,” he said. “I didn’t recognize the number and an hour or two went by and I listened to the voicemail. I thought, ‘Oh my gosh.’ So I thought I’d better call and start looking into what was going on. I called in and they told me I’d won and wanted to send me the paperwork. They mailed it out.”
The car, a 2017 Camaro with custom graphics, was on display at Saturday’s monthly Main Street Cruise-In.
“It’s really neat – it was really a blessing,” Frazier said. “They called me and said they were going to do an interview with me and a video and then they told us that they were going to fly us down to Daytona to present it to us. We got the whole experience. We got to go into the pits and the garages and meet some of the drivers and everything.”
The Fraziers drove the car back to Mississippi. Normally the 10-hour trip home from Florida isn’t much fun, but Sharmaine Frazier said doing it in their new Camaro was her favorite part.
She remembers being stunned when her husband first called her.
“I didn’t believe him,” she said. “I really think we both didn’t believe it until we actually got to talk to the people from Zomongo. They put it on Facebook and they told us and we knew it was real. We got the paperwork and Kevin still took it to the attorney’s office. He didn’t want to enter his date of birth and Social Security number. We had to find out first.”
The whole experience was a lot of fun for the couple.
“We got off the plane and shuttled off to the hotel and they were there waiting for us,” she said. “From there we left immediately – we got there at 4 p.m., and we were getting our NASCAR credentials and hot pit passes and we were at our first race that night. We didn’t get back to the hotel until 11:30 p.m. that night. It was nonstop every day. It was the best.”
If you’re wishing you had won the car, fear not. Zomongo has already begun a second contest, according to Kevin Frazier.
“My advice to people is to keep entering contests because you just never know,” he said. “There is a lot of stuff out there, so just try. I’ve never won anything this big.”
