Columbia 10u all-stars clinch spot at World Series in North Carolina
The Columbia 10u boys all-stars triumphed in their state tournament Tuesday, overcoming several weather delays on their path to their fourth state championship.
Now they’re headed to the World Series the first weekend in August in Lumberton, N.C. That’s about a 750-mile journey to the town located near the South Carolina border between Charlotte and Wilmington.
To earn the trip there, the team played at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Martin after rain pushed the contest back from Monday. They lost the first game to Cleveland in the double-elimination tournament but won with a 13-1 blowout in Game 2, Tournament Chairman Seth Whittington said. Further details weren’t available as of press time.
The same age group won the state tournaments in 6u, 7u and 9u.
Columbia 10u includes Braxton Albritton, Logan Buckley, Jack Carney, Ashton Daniels, Ryder Earls, Hagen Forbes, Carter Fortenberry, Logan Green, Kole Louge, Daniel Lowery, Owen Simmons and Kolby Stringer and coaches John Green and Ryan Stringer.
They’re one of four Dean Griner teams who have earned spots in their national competitions. The 7u and 9u squads both won their state titles, and the 11u team finished runner-up at state.
Those three squads will be competing in the Invitational World Series in Center, Texas, this weekend.
