A UPS truck and an 18-wheeler crashed in slick conditions Thursday afternoon on U.S. 98 near Pierce Road east of Columbia.
The UPS truck driver, Christopher Magee, 41, of Hattiesburg, was entrapped and had to be extricated before being taken to Forrest General Hospital with moderate injuries.
The driver of the 18-wheeler, James L. Hilliard, 34, of Dayton, Tenn., did not appear to be injured.
The Highway Patrol said the UPS truck was traveling west on 98 and was attempting to make a right turn into a private driveway when the 18 wheeler hit it from behind.
The UPS truck ended up on its side with packages falling out, while the 18-wheeler was jackknifed just off the road.
