A Sandy Hook man was arrested and charged with several offenses including possession of methamphetamine after an incident at a safety checkpoint last Sunday.
“Deputies were working at the north end of the county around midnight and made contact with the driver of a vehicle, Lucius Martin,” Marion County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Pete Williams said. “The deputies noticed that Martin had stopped prior to approaching the checkpoint. When he approached the checkpoint, they observed behavior that led them to believe he was driving under the influence. They also observed a syringe in plain view on the seat.”
Deputies conducted field sobriety tests and placed Martin, 42, into custody.
“The deputies then checked the area where the vehicle had stopped and found two bags containing methamphetamine,” Williams said. “He was taken to the Marion County Jail and faces charges of possession of methamphetamine and driving under the influence.”
Bond was set in Marion County Justice Court at $25,000 on the meth charge and $1,000 on the DUI charge. Martin remained in the Marion County Jail as of deadline Thursday. n
