A Columbia woman whose home burned down in September was arrested Tuesday afternoon and charged with first degree arson and conspiracy to commit a felony.
Angel Thiac, 31, was being held in the Marion County Jail on $20,000 bond as of press deadlines after being arrested by the Columbia Police Department.
Police said the case was investigated by the State Fire Marshal’s Office, and state fire officials could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
The Columbia Fire Department had responded to a fire at 919 Duane Ave. at 9:39 p.m. Sept. 12.
Thiac posted on Facebook on Sept. 13, “Well. I’m sure most of y’all have heard by now… but for those who haven’t, my house burned down last night. I have no words. And am still just in shock. I really just don’t know what to say.”
First-degree arson carries a potential penalty of five to 20 years in prison along with paying restitution for any damage caused, while conspiracy can bring up to five years and a $5,000 fine, according to state law. n
