After many years at the same place, the annual Columbia Lions Club Pancake Supper is changing locations.
The tasty hotcakes, bacon and sausage will be served up from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Feb. 8 in the Community Room at the Marion County BusinessPlex, located at 1730 Mississippi 44.
The event had been held at the Wesley Center at First United Methodist Church for a number of years, according to Lions First Vice President Libby Purvis.
“We had to find another location because the church no longer allows outside groups to use the facilities, so we looked at the Community Room at the BusinessPlex,” she said. “It has plenty of seating and full kitchen facilities for us to use. We wanted people to know about the change as tickets go on sale.”
Purvis said Lions Club members will be selling plates at $7 apiece that include pancakes, butter, syrup, sausage, bacon, grits and coffee or milk to drink. Tickets are available in advance or at the door.
The annual breakfast is used to raise funds for local and state sight-saving projects. It was held for many years at the Columbia Country Club until it outgrew the facility. Purvis said the Community Room works well for the Pancake Supper because it has plenty of parking and seating.
Much of the money raised goes for local eye examinations and glasses for people in need. The Lions Club also funds a scholarship for a local student at Pearl River Community College.
Lions Clubs in Mississippi also provide funding for the Mississippi State Lions Eye Bank, which is the only place you can get transplant tissue in Mississippi. The Lions also fund the Mississippi Lions All-State Band, which has often features Columbia and Marion County musicians.
“Tickets are on sale now from any club member and you can dine-in or takeout,” she said. “If you don’t know a Lions Club member, you can contact me for tickets or more information at (601) 444-2413.”
