This week’s Columbia High School Homecoming features a host of events including a new one, a parade, which is slated for Thursday.
Students will also be collecting money all week to raise funds for St. Baldrick’s Childhood Cancer Research Foundation. The organization is one that teacher Amy Terrell went to lobby for in Washington, D.C., as her daughter Gentry battled an inoperable brain tumor. The first block teacher whose class collects the most money during the week will have a pie thrown in his or her face by Wyatt Terrell at the pep rally on Thursday.
Each day will have a different theme in the Columbia School District. Monday was Tacky Day, Tuesday was 80s-90s Day, Wednesday was Superhero Day, Thursday is Blue and Gold Day and Friday is Homecoming T-shirt and Jeans Day.
On Friday, Queen Katrina May and her court will be presented at 3 p.m. in the Crystelle Ford Auditorium and a meet and greet will be held until 4:30 p.m. At 6:15 p.m. May and the court will be presented during pregame festivities. At 7 p.m., the varsity football contest with North Forrest begins.
May is the daughter of Alisia Walker and Chris May. She is a member of New Life Fellowship Church. While at CHS she has served two years on the Student Council as vice president and president. Currently, she is serving as the CHS Art Club president. She has been involved in Beta Club and Save Club. She has also cheered on the CHS cheer team for two years, as well as, played on the CHS volleyball team. Katrina is currently serving as a Wildcat Ambassador her senior year. Her future plans include going to the University of Southern Miss to major in business and accounting in hopes of having her own business one day.
Escorting May is Drayton Purvis, the son of Ashley and Josh Purvis.
This year's Homecoming Maid of Honor is Kennedy Browning. She is the daughter of Richard and Crystal Browning. She plans on attending The University of Southern Mississippi for her bachelor's degree in animal science then transferring to Mississippi State University to complete veterinary medicine school.
Bryce Ramshur is escorting Browning and is the son of Lisa and Chad Ramshur.
This year’s Homecoming Maid of Honor is Shaniya Rich. She is the daughter of Glenn and Shirley Rich. Her future plans are to attend Pearl River Community College then transfer to a university to pursue a career in the medical field.
Carter Dyess is escorting Rich and is the son of Johnny and Paige Bullock and Clay and Jessica Dyess.
This year’s Gold Maid is Ka’Dedra Hall. She is the daughter of Robert and Dedra Hall. Her future plans are to attend Alcorn State University to major in biology and then pursue her career in the medical field.
Tyler Beasley is escorting Hall and is the son of George and Jennifer Beasley.
This year's Blue Football Maid is Danajah Magee. She is the daughter of Tara Brown and Alvin Magee. Her future plans are to become a reservist in the U.S. Air Force and attend Prairie View A&M in Texas to pursue her dreams of becoming a medical examiner.
Hayden Miller is escorting Magee and is the son of Jimmy and Amanda Miller.
The Academic Maid is Jade Slemaker. She is the daughter of Slylina and Michael Slemaker. Her future plans are to attend Mississippi State University, major in biology and continue to medical school to become a dermatologist.
Connor Ross is escorting Slemaker and is the oldest son of Scott and Tiffany Ross.
This year's Athletic Maid is Cortaysja Robinson. She is the daughter of Sakemia and Cortez Robinson. She plans on furthering her education at USM and continuing with athletics.
Escorting Robinson is Tajarius Monroe, the son of Lillian Monroe and Kelly Jones.
This year’s Activity Maid is CeCe Ard. She is the daughter of LaShunda and Brandon Ard. Her future plans are to attend the University of Southern Mississippi to major in biology and then medical school, where she will pursue her career as a pediatrician.
Johnkyle Buckley is escorting Ard and is the son of Leni and John Buckley.
This year’s Activity Maid is Alexis May. She is the daughter of Tyrone and Nicole May. Her future plans are to attend William Carey University or Ole Miss, majoring in medicine with the hopes of one day becoming a dermatologist or a gastroenterologist.
Thomas Hahn is escorting May and is the son of Angela and Lawrence Hahn.
This year’s Senior Maid is Gabrielle Melville. She is the daughter of Stanley Melville, Robin Anderson-Thompson and Earnest Thompson. Gabrielle’s future plans involve attending Louisiana State University to major in biology pre-med with an emphasis in Pediatric Medicine.
Neely Simmons III is escorting Melville and is the son of the late Neely Simmons Jr., and Tony and Ruby Pittman.
This year’s Junior Maid is Abby Claire Morris. She is the daughter of Steve and Elizabeth Morris. Trevor Dawsey is escorting Morris and is the son of Tyler and Angelia Dawsey.
Jordan Bourn is this year’s Sophomore Maid. She is the daughter of David and Amanda Bourn. Nathan Smith is escorting Bourne and is the son of Shan and Mary Smith.
This year’s freshman maid is Kadence Hart. She is daughter of Will and Mindy Hart. Escorting Hart this Friday is Luke Stogner, the son of Josh and Jourdan Bullock and the late Larry Stogner.
