The Columbia Board of Aldermen approved allowing a mobile home to be placed on land in an area where other mobile homes are present.
During its meeting Tuesday night, Yolanda Mingo spoke about the site at 601 D. St.
“My daughter is in the process of purchasing 601 D St. and it’s a lot,” she said. “I spoke to Mr. (Alderman Wendell) Hammond earlier because it holds water. It’s one of the larger lots in the neighborhood. As we were talking, Mr. Hammond mentioned that you would have to vote on allowing it to be put there.”
The mobile home, a 28-foot-by-48-foot doublewide, will be on a 100-foot-by-200-foot lot.
“It would be plenty of land,” Mingo said. “It goes from D Street to Texas Avenue to C Street. I’m here to ask if she has permission to put the mobile home on the property.”
Though it is zoned R-70, Building Inspector Lonnie Stringer said a previous board had allowed mobile homes to be placed in the area.
“Mobile homes are already placed in there,” he said. “The board voted to let mobile homes go back, one at a time on properties there. She has to come before the board and the next person would have to come before the board and be approved.”
Hammond said there were rules for the mobile homes in the area.
“We made stipulations on it that they had to have skirting, setbacks and a covered porch,” he said.
City Attorney Lawrence Hahn had to look up the requirements set up in 2012 to determine what action the city could take and spelled out what those were.
The board then approved the mobile home subject to Stringer’s inspection and meeting all of the requirements.
The board also accepted a lot on Avenue D off Lafayette Street that was deeded to the city by Barbara Eisworth.
The board put on hold a demolition hearing for a property at 435 Lafayette St. after the property’s owner said she would tear down a porch that was falling in and clean the property. Ward 3 Alderwoman Anna Evans was scheduled to meet with the owners about the property after the meeting.
The board also set hearings for Oct. 16 meeting for demolitions at 409 and 413 Conner Ave., and mowing and cleaning at 420 Pearl St., 612 High School Ave., 1212 Broad St., 704 Alberta Ave., the old Pioneer building site and 1721 Barnes Ave.
