The smell of ribs and other smoked meats will waft through Columbia Nov. 11.
New Harvest Worship Center, located at 424 Bullis St., is hosting its fifth annual “Smoke Off” competition.
According to Pastor Donald Aaron, the grounds will open early for competitors to prepare the food and he said the church is looking for participants.
“We want people to come and fire it up,” he said. “Bring your grills and smokers. Bring your lawn chairs. Arrive early and pick your spot. This year we’ll be cooking dry ribs for competition. Of course, they can also cook anything else they want to cook”
The day will feature a judging and the winner will receive a trophy.
Proceeds go toward church projects. Adults are $15 and children $8 for the event. T-shirts can also be ordered for purchase by contacting Jackie Aaron at (601) 674-2074.
“Our No. 1 goal is to have a good time with friends,” Aaron said. “Each year, at the end of the day, we’ve reached our goal; we’ve had good food, good fun and good friends. One thing to remember … we’re all winners when we are having fun.”
