As the new numbers were released this morning, Marion County is now up to six cases of COVID-19.
The Mississippi cases have increased by 136 cases in the last 24 hours to 1,073 with two additional deaths (22 overall). The two deaths were reported in Holmes and Humphreys counties, and Jasper County reported it first case.
Tuesday afternoon President Trump in his briefing said it is believed cases will continue to rapidly increase until peaking around April 21. Trump provided the grim forecast that as many as 240,000 could die from the coronavirus.
On Tuesday the U.S. topped 4,000 deaths due to the coronavirus across the country. Almost 1,700 of the deaths have been in New York City alone.
In an effort to continue to slow the spread, the president has said the social distancing guidelines set out by the Centers for Disease Control need to continue until at least April 30.
