The Marion County Board of Supervisors on Monday approved a proposal from TL Wallace Construction for c on Harmony Road near the Columbia-Marion County Airport.
The $313,224 project, which is coming from District 2 funds, is slated to last 70 days: the first 10 days to turn in all necessary paperwork and 60 days for the project to be completed. The anticipated date construction will begin is June 3. County Engineer Jeff Dungan proposed a roadbed reclamation for Harmony Road, which is expected to receive an increase in traffic during the time Airport Road is closed as part of the $10 million federally funded airport runway expansion.
Board President Terry Broome said this will be a complete redo of Harmony Road from the foundation up to the top layer. This will be where the main traffic will come off of Airport Road because all the traffic that previously went to Airport Extension Road will now go to Harmony Road. The mile-long road connects Mississippi 35 North to Old Mississippi Highway 35 near Airport Road. In addition to the roadbed reclamation, the road will be widened from 20 feet to 22 feet, striped, culvert cross drains replacement and the intersection at Old Highway 35 improvement.
For the most part, according to Broome, during the construction the road will probably be open to only one lane of traffic, with possible road closures periodically during the day.
