A Bassfield man remained in the Marion County Regional Correctional Facility on a $25,000 bond as of press deadlines following his second arrest on allegations of a sexually based offense.
George Jefferson Batimon, 47, was arrested Dec. 7 on a charge of statutory rape - forcible sexual intercourse or sexual intercourse by administering drugs. The alleged incident happened in the Improve area that morning.
Marion County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Glenn Lowery said the investigation is ongoing.
The charge carries up to life in prison if convicted.
In August 2017, Batimon was arrested in Jefferson Davis County and charged with gratification of lust on a vulnerable adult, as well as threatening a police officer, resisting arrest and trespassing. Those charges in Jefferson Davis County remain pending, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
