A 17-year-old is facing charges after allegedly spraying a Lampton residence with bullets last week in what authorities say was retaliation for another recent shooting.
Douglas Jarrod Peters, 17, of Columbia is charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling, disorderly conduct and carrying a concealed weapon related to the March 21 incident at 14 Killingsworth Circle.
He was released on $11,000 bond.
Capt. Pete Williams of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said people were inside at the time of the shooting, but no one was hurt.
“The suspect actually drove to the house and he got out and fired shots into the house and a vehicle in the yard,” he said.
Peters then ran away and dropped the gun but was caught after a brief chase, Williams said.
Also charged in the incident were Trashuna Jonnae Edwards, 20, of Columbia, who was charged with accessory after the fact, hindering prosecution and tampering with evidence. She has since bonded out of jail.
The third person charged in the incident was Johnauh Marquise Myers, 23, of Columbia, who was charged with hindering prosecution and accessory after the fact. Myers remained in the Marion County Jail as of Tuesday.
Williams said things were “getting out of hand” after two recent shootings in the Lampton community that occurred not far from each and one on Evergreen Street in the city.
“A person in this residence was actually almost struck. We utilized all of our resources to bring an end to this,” he said. “We believe that they are all connected. All of the players were involved in all of the shootings that we have investigated. The city shooting is being worked by the Columbia Police Department, but I know that our two county shootings are related.
“We believe one was in retaliation for the other one,” he said.
