The Marion County Historical Society announced the expansion of the Columbia/Marion County Museum and Archives and will inaugurate its new addition with an exhibit honoring Marion County Vietnam veterans.
That begins with an open house event from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday to which the public is invited.
The Vietnam Veterans of Marion County Exhibit will then continue through Jan. 31, 2020, with regular museum hours being 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday to Friday and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Museum curator Carol Durham has been gathering information and various items that will communicate the experiences of the Vietnam soldiers through video interviews, letters to home, photographs and interactive installations. Those who gave their lives will be remembered and those who served and returned will be honored.
