Nearly $20K raised at Cruisin’ the Pearl

Last Saturday, the Columbia Water Park was alive with various activities from the second Cruisin’ the Pearl. It was a day full of food, fun, entertainment, music and, of course, cars of all shapes, sizes and colors.

Gary McCullum, the new performing arts director for Marion County Schools, leads members of the East Marion Gospel Choir (photo above) in a couple of selections at the beginning of the MCSB meeting Monday night. County schools extend mask mandate to Oct. 11

All students who attend Marion County Schools will be required to continue wearing masks until Oct. 11, according to an announcement this week from Marion County School District Superintendent Michael Day.

July tourism tax sees 4.7% rise

Columbia's 3% tourism taxes collected during July rebounded slightly upwards to $82,274.51, an approximate 4.7% increase from the $78,445.27 collected in June.
This special tax, which is imposed strictly on restaurants and hotels, is reported each month based on the collections from two months prior.
