The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is conducting an investigation into an officer-involved shooting that killed a Marion County man Tuesday afternoon and involved Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies. The MBI confirmed Wednesday morning that the individual is Lonnie Hendon.
At approximately 3:25 p.m., deputies attempted to serve multiple arrest warrants on Hendon when he pulled into the driveway at 4665 Mississippi 35 N. When deputies approached Hendon’s vehicle and informed him of the warrants, Hendon allegedly told them he was not going and pulled out a pistol from his car, according to a press release issued by the sheriff’s office Wednesday morning. The deputies then fired their service weapons, causing fatal injuries, according to the press release.
No deputies were injured in the incident.
After the scene was secured, the sheriff’s office contacted the MBI, which has taken over the investigation. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General's Office.
