A Columbia woman, charged in the January 2019 shooting death of her husband, has been released on bond pending her trial that was postponed in late November 2020 until August 2021.
Holly Ann McCraw Mitchell, 29, of Columbia, has been held at the Marion County Jail on $540,000 bond since the incident occurred slightly more than two years ago, when she allegedly shot and killed her husband, Shawn Patrick “Chunk” Mitchell, 33, on Jan 4, 2019.
According to jail records, Mitchell was released from custody on Dec 14, 2020 on $505,000 bond. She was being held in custody on charges of second-degree murder and possession of a controlled substance.
Mitchell’s 10% surety bond was issued by Statewide Bail Bond Company, although there was no information available regarding the reduction in the bond amount from $540,000 to $505,000.
Shawn Mitchell died from a single gunshot wound to his head that happened at the Mitchells’ home at 721 Dale St. Reports indicate the weapon used was a handgun. However, various other guns were recovered from the home, including an AR-15 rifle.
The trial was originally scheduled to begin approximately two months ago, but was continued until Aug. 2, 2021, according to Circuit Clerk Janette Nolan. If found guilty, Holly Mitchell could receive 20 years to life in prison.
No other new developments on the case or trial were available as of press deadline Tuesday.
