Amazon.com takes food from the mouths of every merchant in Columbia — as well as every small town in Mississippi and beyond. The online seller of all goods under the sun has plundered by undercutting on price because it’s not been expected to do little things like, you know, make money.

American Red Cross Shelter Manager Aaron Baldridge stands in front of the cots at the Wesley Center at First United Methodist Church Thursday. Baldridge said five evacuees took advantage of the free and safe shelter to ride out the storms.

Columbia shelters evacuees as Hurricane Laura hits Louisiana

As the southwestern portion of Louisiana took a beating Thursday from Category 4 Hurricane Laura, some evacuees took shelter in Columbia. The American Red Cross set up an evacuation shelter in the Wesley Center at First United Methodist Church this past week.

Duckworth 12U eliminated by Lincoln County

Two losses to Lincoln County led to elimination of the Duckworth 12U all-stars from the state tournament, but their head coach says he’s proud of their effort and third-place finish.
The Columbia team competed in the Mississippi Dixie Youth Majors in Brookhaven over the weekend.
