Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 10, 2018, at the Hathorn Funeral Home for Dennis Michael Long, 59, of Foxworth, who died on Tuesday, Aug. 7 in Columbia. Burial followed in Foxworth Cemetery. Bro. Tim Brunney officiated at the services. Visitation was held from
5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 9 at Hathorn Funeral Home.
As a lifelong resident of Marion County, he will always be remembered as an amazing dad and grandfather. He was a well-liked person that never met a stranger. His work ethic was an example to all and he was always willing to help others. He also loved football.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dempsey and Mildred Long, and two brothers, Ted Allen Long and Ronald “Pee Wee” Long.
Survivors include his wife, Dale Andrea Leigh Blanton of Foxworth; three daughters, Heather Blanton (Craig Clark), Marissa Blanton (Jake Taylor) and Angie Leigh Crain (Christopher), all of Foxworth; one son, Derrick Blanton (Samantha) of Columbia; two brothers, Danny Long of Hattiesburg and Benny Long of Foxworth, and nine grandchildren, Laken Blanton, Michael J. Tyler Blanton, Layla Blanton and Isabella Chyenne Blanton, all of Columbia, and Hannah Haden, Chloe Haden, Makenna Haden, Logan Haden and Hollyn Taylor, all of Foxworth.
Pallbearers were Derrick Blanton, Douglas Haden, Charlie Crain, Will Smith, Shaine Terrell and Thomas O’Quin. Honorary pallbearer was Shaun O’Quin.
