82, New Hope
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 20, 2018, in Colonial Funeral Home Chapel for Elroy Stringer, 82, of the New Hope community, who died on Friday, Aug. 17 in Hattiesburg. Burial followed in Lott Cemetery. Dr. Tim Parker officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 19 at Colonial Funeral Home.
He lived in the New Hope community and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. He served in the Army National Guard and was a box maker with International Paper Company. He retired after working 45 years.
He was preceded in death by his son, Tracy Stringer; parents, Wilson and Lonie Stringer; sisters, Nita Fay Magee and Rita Von Bourne, and brothers, Kenneth Ray Stringer and Harry Lloyd Stringer.
Survivors include his wife, Estelle Stringer; daughter, Regina Stringer; son, Edwin Holmes (Barbara); three grandchildren, Mitch Holmes (Leah), Lacy Holmes and Karson Barrett; two great-grandchildren, Peyton Carver and Chandler Carver, and daughter-in-law, Tanya Stringer.
