93, Jayess
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 11, 2017, at Sartinville United Methodist Church for Mr. James L. Tynes, 93, of Jayess, who died peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 7, at his residence surrounded by family and friends. Interment followed in Sartinville Cemetery. The Rev. Gary Harper and Barry Dickerson officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 10, at Capps Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until the time of the services on Monday, Sept. 11, at Sartinville United Methodist Church.
He was born on Sept. 23, 1923, in Lawrence County and the son of the late James Leslie and Ether Bracey Tynes. He was a dairy farmer, member of Sartinville United Methodist Church, member of the Sartinville United Methodist Church’s Mens’ Club, member of the Sartinville Volunteer Fire Department, former board member of the Walthall County Farm Bureau and former director of the FHA. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States’ Marines and saw action in the battles of both Okinawa and Peleliu.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 69 years, Florence Bozeman Tynes; two sisters, Vena Bearden and Christine Bennett; one half-sister, Gertrude Craft; one brother, William Ray Tynes; four half-brothers, B.O. Tynes, Cecil Tynes, C.J. Tynes and Claude Tynes, and great-grandson, A.J. Tynes.
Survivors include his three sons, Ken Tynes (Jocelyn) of Columbia, Scott Tynes (Gabi) of Magnolia and Mark Tynes (Karen) of Jayess; three daughters, Sharon Estess (Ken) of Magnolia, Leslie Bozeman of Foxworth and Becky Robertson of Jayess; two brothers, Dale Tynes (JoAnn) of Louisiana and Walt Tynes of Jayess; two sisters, Evelyn Dyer of Louisiana and Sally Brumfield of Hattiesburg; 17 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Landon Tynes, Dustin Tynes, Nelson Estess, Brad Bozeman, Kevin Bozeman, Jamie Zeigler and Van Dawsey. Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Sartinville United Methodist Church’s Men’s Club.
The family would like to give a very special “thanks” to Mr. Tynes’ caregivers, Joan “Rose” Stewart and Patricia Ballhagen, and to the staff of Hospice Compassus especially Teresa, Tulip and Shannon.
