Jimelle Entrekin Hudson
89, Columbia
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019, in Hathorn Funeral Home Chapel for Jimelle Entrekin Hudson, 89, of Columbia, who passed away quietly on Saturday evening, Dec. 29 at her residence. Burial followed in Enon Baptist Church. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2 at Hathorn Funeral Home.
She was the eldest daughter of Matthew and Gladys McBride Entrekin. She spent her early years in the Enon community and remained a faithful member of Enon Baptist Church until her declining health due to osteoarthritis prevented her weekly attendance. Her faith was the cornerstone for her life and if you had a need, your name was added to her prayer list and you were prayed for every day.
She married Lottie Everett “Pete” Hudson on May 28, 1948, and settled in the Improve community where they had four children, Terry, Jan, Jill and Tracey.
The Improve community and in particular Improve School was very important to Jimelle. She spent many years working in the lunchroom and has always been known for her homemade yeast rolls along with other wonderful baked goods. She was also a teacher’s aide and bus driver before the school officially closed in 1979.
In 1984, she embarked on a dream of becoming a nurse and entered the nursing program at PRCC. She was the oldest member of her graduating class in 1986 at the age of 54. She has said that the happiest time of her life was working at the former Marion County Hospital and Home Health. She loved visiting her patients and given her phone never stopped ringing, it was apparent to her children, her patients loved her.
She retired from nursing after 16 years as osteoarthritis began to become more and more of an issue but she spent her days cooking for family and friends, being a part of several clubs around town, reading mountains and mountains of books in which mysteries were her favorite and traveling. Her smile could light up a room and will be forever missed by anyone who knew and loved her.
She had enjoyed an evening seeing the Christmas lights of Columbia and stated she had never seen our town look more beautiful.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Matthew and Gladys Entrekin; sister, Jo Evelyn Entrekin Johnson; her husband, Pete Hudson, and son, Terry Michael Hudson.
Survivors include her three daughters, Jenny Oswalt (Jan) of Nashville, Tenn., Jill Hudson of Sacramento, Calif. and Tracey Hudson Countz (Caston) of Columbia; three grand pups, Cashew (Jill), Wiggles and Lulu (Tracey and Caston); brother, Gerald Entrekin of Columbia; sister, Linda Entrekin Eubanks (Michael) of Sumrall; nieces and nephews she held near to her heart, Joseph Lott (Deborah) of Arlington, Va., Kim Aultman (Danny) of Sumrall, Carol Covington (Ed) of Madisonville, La. and Beth Robertson (Bob), Edwin Johnson (Sandy), Calva Arinder Clemmons and Sylvia Arinder Bond, all of Columbia and a host of great nieces and nephews that she loved spending time with.
