Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017, at Hathorn Funeral Home for John Dennis McDaniel Sr., 79, of Columbia, who died on Monday, Oct. 30, in Columbia. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery. Bro. Mike Grenn officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the services on Thursday, Nov. 2, at Hathorn Funeral Home.
Born in Columbia, John served our country faithfully in the United States Army. He was an active outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He was an avid Ole Miss fan and also known as a great coach, helping many in football and baseball. He had a deep love for his family and his Lord.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fate and Eunice Victoria McDaniel; one daughter, Terri McDaniel and one sister, Doris Ross.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Ouida A. McDaniel of Columbia; one daughter, Lisa Gilmore (Jennings) of Columbia; one son, John D. McDaniel Jr. (Lori) of Memphis, Tenn.; one sister, Carolyn McLelland of Cleveland; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
