Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019, at Hathorn Funeral Home for Nellie Faye Buchanan, 86, of Kokomo, who died on Saturday, Dec. 29 at her residence. Burial followed in Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. Felix Arnold officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 31 at Hathorn Funeral Home.
Born in Walthall County, she spent time working at Woodstock Toys and Orleans Furniture Manufacturer, both in Columbia. Many can attest to the selfless love she possessed with her kind and giving spirit. She had a motherly nature, always caring for others’ needs. She was a long-time member of Oak Grove Apostolic Church. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her family and cooking for them.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, M.D. Buchanan; parents, Ed and Gladys Ward; two daughters, Patricia Martin and Demita Buchanan; one son, Marvin David Buchanan; four brothers, George Walters, James Ward, Eddie Ward and Jerry Ward, and three sisters, Wilma Breland, Annie King and Evelyn Lowe.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Speights of Kokomo; one brother, Neal Ward (Bernita) of Tylertown; one sister, Carol June Bourque of Franklin, La.; two grandchildren, Cherie Dugas (Michael) of Denham Springs, La. and Steven Martin (Brandi) of Centerville, La.; eight great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Neal Ward, Brent Bourque, Michael Dugas, Billy Ward, Adam Ward and Steven Martin. Honorary pallbearers were Michael Johnston and Ralph Ward.
