Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2023, at Hurricane Creek Baptist Church for George “Terry” Thomas, 72, of the Hurricane Creek Community, who passed from this life into God’s presence on Saturday, Sept. 23. Burial followed in Hurricane Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Zachary Smith officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 26, at Hurricane Creek Baptist Church.
He was born in Columbia to Willard and Merlie Thomas and has remained a lifelong resident of Marion County. He was a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi with a degree in engineering. He spent his entire career working in the oil and gas industry and retired after working 40 years with Chevron.
He was a Master Mason with the Epley Lodge in Oak Grove. He loved dairy farming and enjoyed time on his tractor baling hay. He was a faithful servant of God who served his community and his Lord through his membership with Hurricane Creek Baptist Church where he led the security team and served as a deacon. He loved his church and his community. He was delighted with the opportunities to cook for them. He was devoted to his family and will be remembered for the deep love he had for his wife, children and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Heather Graham; and a brother-in-law, Dannon "Danny" Cole.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Judy Thomas; a daughter, Vanessa David (Ben); a sister, Tammie Lazette Everett (Jack); a brother, Sammy Thomas (Linda); four grandchildren, Anna Catherine Miller (Colby), Cassidy Merle Graham, Wyatt David and Will David; a son-in-law, Jason Graham; a sister-in-law, Debbie Cole; his faithful canine companion, Possum; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Jason Graham, Colby Miller, Rusty McKenzie, Jake Thompson, Wyatt David, Will David, Jody Thomas and Nate Stafford. Honorary pallbearers were Jack Everett, Shane Cole, Logan Thomas and Rick Adcox.
