84, Hazlehurst
Judith Randle Brewer, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at her home in Hazlehurst on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2024. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, at First Baptist Church in Hazlehurst followed by a graveside service at 3:30 p.m. in Lakewood Memorial Cemetery. Bro. Chris Goolsby and Dr. John Matthews officiated at the services. Visitation was held from noon until the time of the services on Friday, Nov. 8, at First Baptist Church in Hazlehurst.
She was born on June 1, 1940, in Fair Hope Springs. She was a graduate of Hazlehurst High School. She furthered her education at the University of Southern Mississippi, where she obtained both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music. She first worked in the Columbia School District, where she used her talents to teach choral music. She was an accomplished pianist and was honored to travel with the United States of America High School Chorus as its choral director. Following a move to Clinton, she attended Mississippi College, where she obtained a specialist degree in education. She served as an administrator for Clinton Public Schools for over 35 years until her retirement.
Following her retirement, Judith and her husband moved back to Hazlehurst where she was raised. She was an active member of First Baptist Church Hazlehurst where she taught her beloved Vota Vita Sunday School class and sang in the church choir. She loved her book club and Daughters of the American Revolution. She also maintained a close relationship with a special group of teachers from her time as principal at Lovett Elementary in Clinton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, the late Ellis Eugene Randle and Lucille Myrick Randle.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Dr. Jim Brewer; daughter, Lisa Brewer Scruggs (Mark); grandsons, Randle Scruggs (Emily) of Nashville, Tenn., and Joshua Scruggs (Rachel) of Athens, Tenn.; and great-grandchildren, Ellie Scruggs, Laney Scruggs and Leo Scruggs.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be sent to First Baptist Church, Hazlehurst.
Stringer Family Funeral Services in Hazlehurst handled the arrangements.
