Graveside services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 12, 2023, in Woodlawn Cemetery for Kathryn Smith Carson, 92, of Columbia, who died on Thursday, June 8, at her residence. Bro. Paul Young officiated at the services.
She was a longtime resident of Columbia. She had a long career as an LPN, where she worked at Marion General Hospital, Floadrian Nursing Home, as well as private duty in her later years. She loved traveling and visited almost every state in the country.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Odean Carson; parents, Clarence and Lizzie Dyess Smith; and two brothers, Ray Carroll Smith and Donnie Hugh Smith.
Survivors include her son, Dr. Wallace Carson (Carol) of Columbia; daughter, Janice Wilks (Tony) of Columbia; one sister, Joyce Weber of New Orleans, La.; three grandchildren, Don King of Hattiesburg and Leigh Ham (Jake) and Ashley Carson, both of Columbia; and five great-grandchildren, Makena King and Helena King, both of Hattiesburg, and Riley Ham, Samuel Ham and Dillon Carson, all of Columbia.
Pallbearers were Don King, Jake Ham, Terry Weber, Austin Smith, David Smith and Dr. Pat Sanford. Honorary pallbearers were Kenny Carson and Tony Wilks.
