52, Foxworth
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2024, at Colonial Funeral Home for Marvin L. Thornhill, 52, of Foxworth, who passed away on Saturday, Dec. 30, at his residence. Burial followed in Foxworth Cemetery. Rev. Kerry Collins and Rev. Tyler Chavis officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Wed., Jan. 3, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the services on Thursday, Jan. 4, at Colonial Funeral Home.
He was born in Columbia and was a member of Foxworth First Baptist Church. At the age of 12, Marvin had his first experience operating heavy machinery while working with his father, Lewis. He went on to have an extensive career as a heavy machinery operator. Through his work, he forged many lifelong friendships and created lasting memories.
He was a dedicated son, husband, father and grandfather. No matter how busy his workday or week had been, he always made the effort to prioritize his loved ones on the weekends. A few examples include his selfless caretaking of his father, his consistent routine of taking his wife and grandson out for a dinner date every Friday night, his willingness to wake up early on each summer Saturday to mow his daughter’s yard, his time set aside for hunting or fishing with his son, his creation of the breakfast crew at Kat’s Grocery and many more ways that he showed his devotion to those around him.
For those that knew him, they knew a man that had a truly benevolent spirit. He loved his God and his church family. He embodied what it meant to love thy neighbor and never had a harsh word for anyone. He never failed to let those around him know how much he cared for them, whether it be through actions or words. His family and friends will always remember the blessings of his time, consideration and love that he so freely gave. For the brief amount of time that he was in this world, he left an undeniable mark on it in the eyes of his loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Thornhill and Jo Ann Duckworth Thornhill.
His memory will be forever cherished by his wife, Cindy Thornhill; daughters, Abby Smith (Alex) and Shanna Ladner (Gary); sons, Colby Thornhill (Bethany) and Anthony Broome (Bridget); sister, Twyla McLeod (David Sr.); and seven grandchildren, Benson Smith, Betty Ann Smith, Adi Broome, Alayna Broome, Jaylynn Herrington, Layla Herrington and Bryce Ward.
Pallbearers were Josh Lott, David McLeod, Jr., Hugh Gene Smith, John McMichael, Dylan Raynes and Dalton Raynes.
