Robert “Bookie” Bass Jr.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2023, at Emmanuel Baptist Church for Robert “Bookie” Bass Jr., 60, who passed away on Saturday, Dec. 2, at his residence. Burial followed in Emmanuel Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Lloyd Thompson and Rev. David McNeil officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 4, at Emmanuel Baptist Church.
He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and worked as a commercial truck driver for various companies including Nelson Services and Forest Products. He was mechanically inclined and as a teenager developed his skills working with Prine Alinement in Columbia. He enjoyed his friendships, racecars, was an avid drag racing enthusiast and often spent time with his family he dearly loved.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Q. Bass Sr.
Survivors include his mother, Ruth Bass and step-dad, George Bass of Columbia; sister, Jean Fortenberry (Ford) of Foxworth; uncle, Tommy Bass (Mary) of San Antonio, Texas; aunts, Emma Nell Lambert and Liz Hudson, both of Columbia; niece, Katrina Carney (Paul) of Foxworth; nephew, Richard Maliden (Jessica) of Hattiesburg; special friends, Stanley Collins and Jerry McNease, both of Columbia; a great-niece and three great-nephews.
Pallbearers were Stanley Collins, Rickey Eberhart, Terry King, Allen Fortenberry, Ford Fortenberry and Richard Maliden.
